ACADSOC online job

I have been with ACADSOC as a part time home based teacher for exactly a month and a half today and here are my thoughts about it:

How do I feel about working here?

The best thing about working in Acadsoc is the flexibility. Every week I plot my desired schedule. On Mondays, for example, I advise my TM (Team Manager) that I want to take Mondays-Fridays 7pm-11pm and take Saturdays and Sundays off.  And if I want to earn extra cash, I take Weekend classes too. 

The next best thing that I like about Acadsoc is that it makes a great part time job. you can do it at home with minimal tool investments: you just need a laptop and a decent headset. I use Plantronics with a noise cancelling feature.  

Lastly, It is fairly easy, teaching especially free talk feels like you are being paid to listen. Just be prepared with your list of open ended questions, sitback, relax and watch out for any grammar or pronunciation errors. Recap and give a few tips.

How long do you teach each student?

I teach every student for 25 minutes.

For Part timers, what is the minimum number of teaching hours?

You should teach for a minimum of 4 hours per day.

How much do they pay? 

This is my first time to teach online ESLat home  at so my rate is Php100/hour. However, it gets better with tenure and rating. Everyday you get Teaching Points. Teaching points are the points you accumulate everyday since your first day. So the higher you Teaching Points is, the higher your per hour salary is.

As a part time, I allot 4 hours of work everyday Monday-Friday. so that is 400Php x 20. or Php 8000 additional to your monthly salary!

If there are students who will be absent, or if there are cancellations or unbooked hours. Acadsoc will still pay your for that.

How do you get paid?

They pay you via Paypal which you can transfer to your existing ATM card. Recently I bought a paymaya card, because I like the convenience of having a prepaid credit card.

Probationary status varies there are some teachers that have been on probationary for 4 months, some for 1 month. It depends on the TM actually and the performance.

Probation Period Rules and Conditions

1.Booking rate must reach 80%
2.Attendance Rate must be 90% (no cancellation of booked schedules or absents as much as possible)
3.Teaching Score by student survey must be above 4.98
4.Do not have Student/CS complaints more than one.

If I wanted to be a teacher full-time what do I have to do? 

From the start of your application you can say it upfront to HR or if you are a part time teacher and you want to switch full time, you can always approach your Team Manager.

A little off topic: since it is a work at home job, at first I thought that this would be a very "lonely-you're-on-your-own" endeavor. I was pleasantly surprised that it is not the case. You won't feel lonely about having "co-worker" interaction. No, you won't be a lone wolf since you have an online community of Acadsoc Teachers in Facebook whom you can exchange your thoughts and concerns with. They are really a very supportive bunch. :)

Working with Acadsoc is a very good opportunity for me. It helps boost my salary and at the same time, It kinda feels good to teach especially if you see your regular students improving. :)
